WeFoundIt: How We Built Cameroon's First Lost & Found Platform

Every day, items go missing across Cameroon — national ID cards at the market, phones on buses, wallets and keys in public spaces. By some estimates more than three million items are lost in the country each year, and the majority are never recovered. WeFoundIt, a DG Enterprise product, was built to change that. It is Cameroon's first mobile-native lost and found platform, and it is a clear example of what our team can design and ship end to end.

The problem we set out to solve

Found items pile up at police stations, bus parks, and front desks with no easy way to reach their owners. Owners, meanwhile, have nowhere to look. The information exists — it is just not connected. WeFoundIt connects it.

How it works

• Report. Lost something? Create a report with photos, category, location, and distinguishing details. Found something? Register it so the owner can find you.
• Smart matching. Our algorithm compares document numbers, serial numbers, colours, brands, and locations. When confidence reaches a high threshold, both people are notified instantly.
• Reunite. Confirm the match, chat securely in-app, pay the reward, and get your belongings back.

Mobile money rewards

WeFoundIt motivates good samaritans with rewards paid instantly through MTN MoMo or Orange Money — the tools Cameroonians already use. Each item category has a sensible default reward, and owners can raise it to speed up a return.

Built for trust and safety

Recovering valuables means handling sensitive interactions carefully. WeFoundIt keeps phone numbers and emails private behind secure in-app chat, requires proof of ownership before a claim, and processes rewards through the app with digital receipts and dispute resolution.

Built for Cameroon — and its institutions

The platform is bilingual (English and French), works on mobile and web, and covers all ten regions from Buea to Maroua. Institutions such as police stations, bus parks, universities, hotels, and malls can manage found items at scale with a dedicated dashboard, bulk uploads, and priority matching.
